It is the southernmost city of the United States of America according to the geographical co-ordinates and thus the most weak and strong areas of defense of the country simultaneously. There were large vessels built here in the times of the rulers of the past particularly Kamehameha III who built ships as well as made Hilo his political capital and conducted all his affairs from the state.
Not only defense but also trade and culture have received a boost in this area and the people of the state have lived through many years of economic progress and boom.
The total area that is taken up by Hilo is about of 151.4 square kilometers or 58.4 miles and this is one of the largest and one of the most populated places in Hawaii.
There are many elements that provide Hilo with dominance on other places and this was truly realized by the people of olden days who used the location of this area to their advantage in trade and in battle. There isn't much that has changed since then and another advantage that Hilo has always enjoyed is the fertility of its land which makes it ideal for cultivation and harvest. This has been a site for major investments by the government of the United States of America and also the fishing business has bloomed since centuries in the place.
The town of Hilo is located in the most southern part of the United States of America. Hilo is classified by the Census Bureau of the United States of America as being a census designated place, or a CDP. Hilo Bay, which is in the shape of a funnel, also makes the town vulnerable to tsunamis.
