There are a lot of cultural differences in Hilo. But even though they do not readily embrace new comers, the people of Hilo are always ready too make new friends, get more financial resources for the community, obtain new ideas, and gain more energy. After a while the new comers are started to be treated warmly. They get used to them being around and begin to accept them. The people are very kind as well as generous. Even though they are diverse with respect to their ethnic backgrounds, they live together in harmony. As compared to the people living in the mainland, the people of the coastal town of Hilo have traveled a lot. Because of this there is more than one culture which has become a part of their life. There is a lot of interaction between different families, and people get together often.
The census designated place of Hilo is a brilliant town. The town is full of interesting shops, events, parks, historic buildings, and performances. Those areas which suffered because of the tsunami which hit it have been converted into big parks. These have played a major part in making the town more beautiful. The people who live in the town are very down to earth by nature. They prefer to wear T-shirts as compared to tourist garb, and unlike other places of Hawaii, they do not tolerate the rude behavior of tourists.
